In his report, Professor Hu Xiaotian systematically shared his experiences and insights, focusing on the core aspects of NSFC application. Drawing from his years of experience in both applying for and reviewing projects, he elaborated on the key points in project proposals. He advised applicants to "refine meticulously," strictly follow the current year's application template item by item to avoid omissions or arbitrary changes. For projects not funded in the previous year, he emphasized the importance of carefully addressing reviewer comments and making substantive revisions. Regarding writing, he stressed the need to be "profound yet easily understandable," with logical clarity, fluent sentences, and avoidance of typos. Furthermore, he recommended multiple rounds of review before submission, seeking feedback from others, and paying attention to formatting aesthetics to enhance the overall quality of the application materials.

Professor Hu also provided a key interpretation on the distillation and selection of scientific problem attributes. He categorized scientific problems into four main types and conducted an in-depth analysis in conjunction with different application categories. Professor Hu emphasized that applicants should accurately select and clearly articulate the scientific problem attributes based on the originality, frontier nature, applicability, and interdisciplinary nature of their own research work, as this is a focal point for project positioning and reviewer attention.
